Speed Tests
~~~~~~~~~~~
The following tests were done on a StrongARM RPC600, using a RAMDISC.
I've used a ramdisc so that my rarther slow hard disc dosn't effect scan
speeds.
On this RamDisc, there are 3940kb of files (878 objects).  These are:
Artworks 1.62
Impression Publisher 4.11
A 1.6Mb floppy !Boot squence
Lander
Pushy II
StrongED 4.11 (Sorry - Zap 1.39B6 wouldn't fit)
ArcFS Archived !AddApps 1.60
ArcFS Archived !AppToMod 2.00
ArcFS Archived !HQTracker 1.02
ArcFS Archived Bulb and lawyer jokes
ArcFS Archived LZW modules 1.02
X-Filed KiwiSoft WebSite
All tests were done with 'Faster' off, if such a feature existed, and
any heristic !Boot scanning enabled.
Slayer		00:29.32 (Scanned all files)
Killer		* Removed at the request of Pineapple Software *
VZap		00:36.73 (Did not scan inside X-Filed WebSite)
Scanner		00:17.95 (Did not scan Archives or X-Files)
Guardian3	00:10.80 (Did not scan Archives or X-Files)
VKiller		00:06.57 (Did not scan Archives or X-Files)
Although these tests show that Slayer is not the fastest of the tested
scanners, if you check these speeds against the live-virus tests and the
features lists, it does show that Slayer is very fast for what it does.
Also, VZap, Guardian3 and Scanner do not multi-task while they are scanning
which gives them quite a speed increase.  The single-tasking version of
Slayer that is in development currently does the above test in 9.08 seconds,
or 68 files a second!  It is to be further optimized, and we expect to have
it achiving 150 files/second on a StrongARM.
The reason Slayer detected the X-File, if you can tell Slayer what types
of files are 'image' filing systems.  This even lets you get Slayer to
scan inside StrongHelp hyper-text files!
